Increasing administrative units will strengthen the economy, provide immediate relief to the people – India accelerated its development through provincial divisions, says Faraz-ur-Rehman
KARACHI (Staff Reporter): Founder of Pakistan Business Group and former Chairman KATI, Faraz-ur-Rehman, in his address, stated that the only sustainable solution for Pakistan’s progress is to end administrative disorder and increase the number of provinces. In a country as large as Pakistan, merely four provinces are insufficient. Considering the population, resources, and challenges, there should be at least 12 to 14 provinces to strengthen governance and provide local-level relief for the people’s issues.
He said that unless we expand provincial divisions, a genuine boost to Pakistan’s economy will not be possible. The creation of new provinces will generate employment opportunities, promote local industries, expand the scope of investment, and accelerate the national economy through fair distribution of resources.
Citing India’s example, Faraz-ur-Rehman said that India strengthened its governance by administratively dividing its provinces and states, which is why it is ahead today in the race for economic growth. If Pakistan also takes this timely decision, the economy will benefit manifold, and the move will play a vital role in making Pakistan an economic power at the global level.
He further said that just as a plant confined to a pot never bears fruit, a province overloaded with responsibilities cannot solve the people’s problems. The creation of new provinces will improve the delivery of healthcare, education, employment, and justice, thereby increasing the public’s trust in the state.
Faraz-ur-Rehman stressed that to move Pakistan forward, tough and pragmatic decisions must be made, and the foremost among these should be the creation of new provinces.
